Submission Guidelines

This is a place for all the stories that were believed in but never landed in a proper place. You’ve racked up rejection after rejection, penned countless rewrites, but for some reason it never got the “YES”. Give those stories a proper send off; a final resting place that isn’t particularly curated, but is a dignified end to a story you loved.

You can include a eulogy with your piece, talking about anything you want in relation to the story, what you learned from it, what it meant to you, etc. If you don't want to include a eulogy, the editor can say something if you'd like.

That said, there are still some basic guidelines to follow:
– Pieces shouldn't be previously published.
– You can submit as many pieces as you'd like and there is no word limit. We do ask that you submit pieces one at a time.
– We will not publish work that is offensive or shows hatred, prejudice, or violence directed towards a particular race, religion or any form of religious bashing, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, ability, socioeconomic class, or other social identity or status.
– We do not consider pieces that are relevant to any religion or any religious concept.
– There is no payment for publishing a story on Laid to Rest.
– Rights requested:

  • First Electronic Publishing Rights: the right to be the first to publish the Work online.
  • Archival Rights: the right to keep the Work on the this website and in our archives indefinitely, unless requested to remove it.
